This past winter, on the back of the long summer drought, has been relentless. 11 new horses in desperate need came into our care, and three of our own HSES horses are due to return as their owner has a serious health crisis. This past weekend, we also began the transition of the Cindy’s Promise ponies, horses, and yes, Lola the pig, into the sanctuary.
Cindy’s Promise was a horse and pony rescue in Whittlesea, Victoria, doing wonderful work, but sadly had to close its gates. We supported Cindy through the closure of her much loved charity and gave our assurance, her rescues would be safe with us. That’s a lot of extra mouths to feed at a time when feed costs are at record highs. With drought driving hay prices skyward, every day is a scramble to make sure there’s enough to go around.
When horses are in desperate need, what do you do? You step up.
Please step up with us today. Right now, we need to raise $15,000 to help us continue to buy feed.
Horse Shepherd is one of the very few large-scale, active equine sanctuaries still operating in Victoria. We simply cannot be allowed to fail, because too many horses and ponies with no one else to turn to rely on us for specialised recovery care and a safe place to call home.
Every single day, our small team is on the ground:
We shoulder the work. But we cannot do this without your help. Here are some of our costs:
We pay no wages, there are no extra costs, our significant costs are hay and hard feed, farrier, horse education and vet care for animals who have nowhere else to turn.
Please donate if you can, comment and share our appeal today, whether it's $5 or $50, your donation will make a difference. Comments are really important as they help reach more people (and lift our spirits)
Please support this vital work.
