Dear Friend of the Nusa Tenggara Association,
I’m reaching out with both urgency and optimism. Schools in eastern Indonesia are still facing significant challenges in providing access to clean water and basic hygiene facilities—something every child deserves.
The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends a toilet-to-student ratio of 1:25 for girls and 1:50 for boys in schools. Over the last 6 years, our data show that when schools first join the NTA program, on average, there is one operational toilet for nearly 50 students. With our support to repair broken toilets and build new facilities, in 2025, schools were showing significant improvement, with one toilet per 30 students.
Why is this so important? Because hygiene isn’t just about cleanliness. It’s about health, dignity, and opportunity. In Indonesia, studies show that:
❑ The school dropout rate is almost 50 per cent higher in schools without adequate toilet and handwashing facilities.
❑ One in seven girls misses school during each menstrual period.
❑ Improved handwashing can reduce absenteeism by 30% due to fewer gastrointestinal infections.
❑ Children drink unsafe water and risk dehydration due to a lack of safe drinking water.
Our goal is to raise $10,000 this financial year to fund clean water access, handwashing stations, safe drinking water, and essential hygiene education. In one year, these improvements will directly benefit 4,000 students and have a lasting impact on thier health, school attendance, and future opportunities.
Every donation, large or small, brings us closer to creating safer, healthier learning environments. Importantly, all contributions made before 30 June are tax‑deductible this financial year.
$50 will fund a filter for safe drinking water for a class of 30 students.
$150 will fund the repair and renovation of a school toilet.
$250 will provide environmentally friendly and healthy menstrual product kits for a class of high school girls
$350 will purchase a double toilet
$500 will fund a rainwater tank with a capacity of up to 15,000 L.
If you’re able, please consider making a gift today. Your generosity will help transform daily life for students who deserve the chance to learn in a clean and healthy environment.
Thank you for your continued support and commitment to the communities of eastern Indonesia.
Warm regards, Nusa Tenggara Association
